Claude Opus 5.5 in Claude Code: add image, video, and audio

Opus 5.5 reads text and images and writes text. It won't hand you a PNG, an MP4, or a voiceover. Install AnyCap once and the same Claude Code session can generate them, watch a video file, and ship the result, while Opus keeps doing the planning and the review.

Tell Claude Code

Claude Code finds the AnyCap skill, installs the CLI, and walks you through login. After that, ask for the image or video in plain language.

What an Opus 5.5 session can hand back

Everything here came back from the AnyCap CLI on the production API on September 22, 2026: an image, an edit made from that saved file, and a five-second clip. They show what the commands return. They are not a recording of an Opus 5.5 session.

Seedream 5 generated an olive desk lamp on an off-white background
1 · Generated from a text prompt
Seedream 5 edited the same desk lamp with a yellow shade and an olive stem and base
2 · Edited from the first file
Seedance 2.5 · 5 s, 720p · 59 credits. The push-in matches the prompt; the framing crops the top of the shade by the end.

Seedream 5 charged 2 credits per image in that run. The edit also added a small mark near the base, which is the kind of thing Opus should catch when it reads the file back. Commands and limits are on the image and Seedance 2.5 pages.

Set it up by hand

  1. 1. Add the AnyCap skill to Claude Code

    $
    npx -y skills add anycap-ai/anycap -a claude-code -y

The skill tells Claude Code which commands exist and when to call them.

  2. 2. Install the CLI

    $
    curl -fsSL https://anycap.ai/install.sh | sh
  3. 3. Log in once

    $
    anycap login && anycap status

Run /model in Claude Code if Opus 5.5 is not already the active model.

Opus 5.5, Sonnet 5.5, or Fable 5.1?

A single image or clip is mostly one command and one look at the file, so Sonnet 5.5 is usually enough. Opus 5.5 earns its price on long jobs: a landing page with its own hero video, or a batch of assets checked against a brief.

Calling AnyCap as a tool from the Opus 5.5 API

Three request changes in Anthropic's migration guide break older tool loops. Claude Code handles these for you.

  1. —

    Don't force the tool call

tool_choice any or tool returns a 400 on Opus 5.5. Use auto and write a tool description that makes the media call the obvious next step.

  2. —

    Thinking stays on

Requests that disable thinking or set a manual budget are rejected. Lower effort instead when a media step only needs a short command.

  3. —

    Pass thinking blocks back untouched

In a tool loop, return the assistant message as received with the tool result. Edited or dropped thinking blocks return a 400.

Questions

Can Claude Opus 5.5 generate images or video?

+

No. Anthropic lists text and image input with text output for Opus 5.5. In Claude Code it can call AnyCap to generate images, video, speech, and music, then read the saved files back.

Can Claude Opus 5.5 watch a video?

+

Not as a video file. It accepts images, so without a tool you would export frames. anycap actions video-read sends the file to a video model and returns a text answer Opus can act on.

Do I need Opus 5.5 to use AnyCap in Claude Code?

+

No. The skill and CLI work with whichever model Claude Code is running, and with Codex, Cursor, and other agents that can run shell commands.

Should I move from Claude Opus 4.7 to Opus 5.5?

+

Anthropic now lists Opus 4.7 as a legacy model and suggests starting with Opus 5.5. Inside Claude Code, switching is a /model change and the AnyCap setup stays the same. If you call the API directly, read the migration notes above first.
